SAAO Membership Renewal

If your year has been anything like mine it comes as a shock to realise that there are only a few weeks remaining before the end of the year, and the time has come for renewal of your SAAO membership. The SAAO financial year runs from the 1 October to the 30 September of the following year.

At the last AGM it was decided to increase the annual membership subscription slightly to R800-00. This goes towards the administration and running costs of the organisation and the administration of the website.

The goal of the SAAO remains the unbiased distribution of new information and the exchange of knowledge pertinent to dental implantology, and to seek strong affliations with similar organizations globally, especially the Academy of Osseaointegration and the EAO. The knowledge transfer happens through regional meetings in Cape Town, Gauteng and Durban, and the hosting of a bi-annual international conference which attracts world-renowned speakers in the field of implantology.

The next such event is scheduled for Gauteng from the 31 May to the 2 June 2018.

SAAO 3rd International Congress

The South African Association of Osseointegration (SAAO) is very happy to announce that the 3Rd International Congress will be hosted in Johannesberg, City of Gold. It is scheduled to take place in Midrand 31 May – 2 June 2018.

This meeting promises to be the highlight of the 2018 calendar, and aims to be the premier dental implant congress in South Africa. We are pleased to announce that the Academy of Osseointegration (AO) have confirmed their continued support of the SAAO as part of their global outreach strategy and will sponsor part of the program with top international speakers.

The theme of the congress will be Challenges in Implant Dentistry. The focus will be on the current challenges we face in Implantology practice today.

Dear Delegate

We would like to thank you for your participation in the Inaugural congress of the SAAO at CTICC. Some very good memories was created during the event and the best way to share a moment is with a picture. With the help of our colleague and photographer, Tabu Stegman, we created a folder with pictures in dropbox. Thank you very much for your trouble Tabu.

In the makeshift dining hall, filled with tables covered with elegant white linen, in which the recently refurbished reception area of the UWC is located, 150 people are taking a break whilst attending a pre-conference traders day with 5 parallel sessions. The hustle and bustle resembles the frenetic activity of an ant colony.

This is the pre-conference to the Inaugural Congress of the Southern African Association of Osseointegration (SAAO). Dr Louwrens ‘Blackie’ Swart explained that getting this group of members of the academia and private practice together to host a very organized and smooth-running congress was nothing short of a small miracle. The gathering was made possible after the SAAO and the dean of UWC, Prof Y Osman agreed to an MoU. UWC must be complimented and congratulated on completing the mammoth task of making their facilities available whilst undergoing a renovation process. They clearly went the extra mile, a fact that was evident to all delegates, as both the traders and delegates offered numerous words of praise. ‘This is but a small start to our future co-operation’, Dr Louwrens said.
